I enjoyed the location to the highway and that it was close to my reason for staying in the hotel. Which was a wedding. The hotel employee at the front desk was very helpful when my key did not work.

I was very dissapointed in the amenities of the room. Some of the tile was coming apart from the wall in the bathroom. Also the toilet had some kind of stains all over the bowl. There was supposed to be complimentary shaving cream and razor, but I never found any. I also found in upsetting when I was allowed to stay up untill 11:00 am, yet housekeeping kept wanting to clean my room before I left. I defininately will not stay at this particular hotel again.

The price was right. Location good.

The bathroom shower curtain was filthy and stained. It should be changed every so often. Disease control please.

We were very suprised when we came back to our hotel room at 11pm and found that the maid had taken all of our towels, had not replaced any of them, and had not cleaned or touch our room. It took the front desk over 35 minutes to come to our room with new towels, after my husband had called twice. The towels seemed warm but yet not completely dried.....our bed was a mess as it had sheets on it that did not fit the bed ( we had a queen). The sheets seem to be made for a double in that they couldn't be tucked in.....very bad experience, compared to other years. My husband and I will not be staying there next year...

Not much, the facility is run down, old, needs upgrade; was not comfortable and will not come back

The staff, although misguided and out of touch, sincerely made an effort to make us comfortable. We complained of an intense overpowering smell of air freshener and the staff were very helpful in suggesting solutions such as leaving the door to the outside open, turning up the air conditioning, and opening the curtains. The location was very good; just a short walk to the main drag downtown and very close to all kinds of shops and restaurants.

The King suite had a very intense smell of cleanser, perfect for those with no chemical sensitivities. The suite had a red heart shaped tub which was nice except for the residue of some kind under the faucet, but we were more concerned with the swarm of fruit flies. Although some of the surfaces in the suite seemed clean, I would not recommend placing anything on them because the film of oil left from whatever they used to clean with definitely rubbed off on everything. Also the bed was very nice and big and only slightly larger than the sheets that they tried to cover it with, leaving the mattress exposed around the edges.

We were able to walk to our destination so we didn't have to worry about parking and traffic. I was able to bring my dog for no additional charges.

The room was very small, also not sound proof at all, we could hear the traffic outside all night long.

I have nothing positive to say about my recent stay at the Howard Johnson Express Inn in Barrie. It was without a doubt, the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I will definitely tell everyone I know, not to stay there!

The first sight of the hotel made me skeptical.... and it only got worse as I entered the check-in lobby. The office smelled offensive, the two men working were rude and dismissive and also reaked of body odour. At 2:55 p.m. I was told I would have to wait until 3:00. When he realized the absurdity of this he relented and allowed me to check in. I requested a cot but was told the room wasn't big enough. The stairs leading to the 2nd floor room were very steep. The room was appalling; one double bed which was sloping to the right, stained bedding (which looked fresh), hairs on the sheets which were supposedly freshly laundered, dirt and filth everywhere.... I have pictures to prove it all!!! My sister and I were in Barrie for the CMT festival so had no choice but to stay there as it was the only room available in Barrie!

I have to be honest, I was really disappointed. I has to have my room changes twice. The first reason, the room we entered was unclean, had an awful smell, and was next to a room where their was a party of sorts. When I brought this information to the Front Desk, they thought it was quite funny and charged me more money to swtich to an other room. This other room was not much better. The beds were made, but had cigarette burns into the comforters and the sheets, it didn't have an alarm clock, it had an awful smell to it and was simply put, unkept and therefore unwelcoming!! It didn't live up to the expectations that a"Howard Johnson hotel" would carry, which is regrettable at best.

I didn't like the reception, the room, the people staying there (drunk).

Neighbourhood was not nice. The rooms were at best minimal accomodations. Was dark and scary. The curtains burn holes in them the bath tub are 2ft by 2ft. I was not impressed. As a Delta employee I would never recommend this hotel to anyone for any reason.

It was awful. The room reaked of smoke and the other guests did not seem to understand that you sleep at night.

It was pretty crappy compared with the Best Western down the street but with similar rates. The internet wireless was not working, and I would bet that the internet was not working period - maybe they don't have it. The guy at the desk said he hadn't received my booking. When I called to ask about the internet I was told that the night manager would try to fix it when he came in at 11, and the desk person didn't have access. The place is pretty old and run down to begin with. I'm not sure if I've ever stayed at a Howard Johnson - I thought that I had. That place is definitely not doing any good for your brand image. I would be unlikely to consider Howard Johnson again while travelling unless the prices were incredibly discounted. In comparison to the Best Western down the street, which I believe offered a very similar internet rate - maybe a few dollars more - the experience was terrible. If the Best Western was a 10, this Howard Johnson would be in the neighborhood of a 2 or 3.

Near the highway, convenient distance from restos, dancing, bars

Area somewhat creepy with homeless abound. Maid banged on the door asking if we needed the room cleaned..um, yes. Then, she never cleaned it nor changed the towels. It was the second time we were asked if we needed the room cleaned...
